One of my resolutions for 2017 is to learn the technical names for ingredients in products, and what they mean, so I can be a more educated consumer. For example, when I read organic cocos nucifera I would like to know that it simply means organic coconut oil (why don’t they just say that?). In the meantime I rely on two apps to do the research for me.

1). Think Dirty

I love this app because not only do they list out the ingredients but you can click on each ingredient for a full description of why it might be a concern and research done on it. They also give suggestions on products they recommend with low ratings. Doesn’t get much more helpful than that!

2). Healthy Living by EWG

The Environmental Working Group is an incredible resource if you are trying to learn more about toxins and a healthy lifestyle. This new app they put out combines their Skin Deep Database, which is a resource to help you assess the toxins in cosmetics, and their grocery helper database. Two for one!

I do believe we should all be better consumers and get to know the ingredients in our products. It’s the only way we can hold companies responsible. But until I get my PHD in deciphering ingredients, I will rely on these great apps to make better decisions.

Hope this helps!

Courtney
